  • Swinging Into Sensory

    Funded Jul 24, 2024

Thank you so much for helping with our classroom supplies and sensory swing. The students have loved being able to just sit in our garden and enjoy our new swing. The swing has really helped with their regulation issues and communication issues as well. We usually have a line waiting for the swing. So our students are learning important skills like: waiting, communication, and cooperation!

Since our project had monies left over, I was able to purchase valuable supplies to help with inside activites and learning within our classroom. School budgets are tight this year and so are parents wallets, so I haven't had any donations for my class. These school supplies have really saved the day, since I haven't had extra cash to donate to my own classroom this year. Thank you from the bottom of my heart! We have loved every minute using our new swing and our new school supplies! The difference that has been made has helped not only my classroom but others that don't have supplies either. Thank You and Have a Happy New Year!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Eagar

  • Snacks and Brain Power!

    Funded Oct 4, 2022

Thanks so much for helping our classroom with snacks. The snacks have helped our students focus and learn. Our students have been able to learn skills for self-advocacy and requesting items that they would like to eat. Parents are informing us at school, that these skills they are learning are transferring over to the home setting along with school.

This is a huge step forward toward independence for our students with autism.

Thank you again for helping us fund our snacks for our classroom. This has helped relinquish different financial burdens for our staff members as well. So your contribution has helped all in our classroom.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Eagar

  • Focus and Fidgets!

    Funded Sep 4, 2022

Thank you so much for helping my wonderful students obtain the needed supplies for our classroom. My students are so excited every day when they get the opportunity to practice their calm-down skills with the new fidgets at their desks. We have been able to help students learn appropriate strategies at school and home for calming down and focusing. They practice these skills every day during a calm-down time. The staff has been able to use the fidgets as motivators for the students. When the students finish their work, they get 5 minutes to play with a designated fidget, this helps keep them motivated during the day to finish their school work.

Since starting to use these supplies in the classroom, my students have been more interactive with each other and more helpful as well. This has helped the students grow tremendously in their social skills and interactions with each other. Thank you again for your wonderful contribution to helping my students here at Hughes Elementary.”

  • Independence is the Key!

    Funded Mar 12, 2022

Thank you so much for helping my wonderful students obtain the needed supplies for our station rotations. for my classroom. My students are so excited every day when they get the opportunity to practice their academic skills at their stations. We have been able to load and run so many different applications and skills at each station. They practice sight words and math facts every day. The students were so excited to know that they could work for incentives like tootsie rolls and other candy. This has been such a great motivator for them.

Starting next month, we will begin our unit on daily living skills to help promote independence and skill generalization. The students will be tracking their progress and using the task boxes to keep all of their supplies in them. The students are overjoyed with happiness to know that they have their own supplies, and they don't have to share or worry that things may get broken in the task boxes.

Since starting to use these supplies in the classroom, my students have been more interactive with each other and more helpful as well. So along with making great strides with their academics; this has helped the students grow tremendously with their social skills and interactions with each other. Thank you again for your wonderful contribution to help my students here at Hughes Elementary.”

  • Keep the Fire Alive in Learning

    Funded Aug 14, 2019

Thank you so much for helping my wonderful students obtain technology for my classroom. My students are so excited everyday when they get the opportunity to practice their academic skills with the tablets. We have been able to load and run so many different applications on the tablets. They practice sight words and math facts almost everyday. We are currently working on research projects about planets; so the tablets have been so handy for all students to work on.

Starting next quarter, we will begin our research of gardening and how to plant and take care of vegetables. The students will be documenting the growth of the garden by taking pictures of their assigned vegetables. The photos will then be used to help us chart and document the growth of each plant.

Since starting to use this technology in the classroom, my students have been more interactive with each other and more helpful as well. So along with making great strides with their academics; this has help the students grow tremendously with their social skills and interactions with each other. Thank you again for your wonderful contribution to help my students here at Hughes Elementary.”

All students at any age and grade level love to work on technology. This keeps the fire for learning alive and engaging for them with any subject that is given to them. Our class has very limited technology( 4 older tower computers) that they can use on a regular basis within our classroom. None of this technology is portable and only one student can use it at a time. When our class gets to play Kahoot (computer math game) they have to share computers with other students and that is if we are lucky enough to get a few computers borrowed from other classrooms. My students are more engaged in their work and less disruptive to their peers when they get the opportunity to work independently on their own projects and not have to wait on others to finish. By being able to have amazon fire tablets for our students will be able to keep that intrigue and excitement for learning; all the while teaching them how to navigate new technology. By learning these skills on the tablet, it will help the students learn how to compensate for their disabilities and this will help them in the future.
