Flexible seating is essential in the classroom because it allows the students to make the seating choice that is right for them, which will allow them to learn best. During our work centers or during quiet, independent work time, students choose a space in the classroom that works best for them to get their work done. Currently in our classroom, we have some flexible seating, but it would helpful to my students if every student had the option to work somewhere other than their desk to complete their work. I have noticed that when students feel a sense of autonomy when choosing where they complete their work, they do a good job at selecting a seat where they will be successful at getting work completed, and the work is also completed appropriately. The products that I chose for my project will help the students in my classroom by allowing them the autonomy to sit where they need to sit in order to be successful in completing work, not distracting their peers, and using their resources correctly. Some of the seats that I selected also help some students who have a harder time staying still in their seats. These particular seats will help my students’ wiggly bodies be less noticeable to their peers, and will also help them get out their sensory needs.
