We are requesting books, games, and fidget toys in order to increase focus, concentration, and self-regulation. I am helping my students learn to verbalize their feelings in order to allow them to be successful in the academic setting. Being able to integrate cognitive behavioral intervention in game format is often more successful with elementary school aged kids than traditional talk therapy. The books and games that I will use with my students will teach them real life problem solving skills to manage big emotions like anger, frustration, fear, and sadness. Interactive games also allow my kids to improve social skills through structured activity while having fun! The books that I have chosen encourage positive behavior and healthy relationship building. As a first year school social worker I am just starting to build up my library of tools, any resource that I can acquire will be incredibly beneficial to my students!
