I wish you could see the excitement in my students' eyes when they listen to World Music & start to learn about World Drums. For these underprivileged children, who come from backgrounds where opportunities are few, the opportunity to express themselves on the drums together is priceless. Research shows the benefits of music, which include: enhancing academic achievement and increasing social/emotional health. My students LOVE to play instruments. The drums I have chosen are authentic tubano drums. I have been trained in the World Music Drumming Curriculum Level 1 & 2. It is designed to help students get along with each other and work as a team. Here are some of the benefits of World Music Drumming that serve as an antidote for bullying: • The first key word in the curriculum is Respect — for others in the group, for the culture being studied, for the instruments used. • Cultural differences are celebrated as a rich palate of life choices. “Other” is seen as good. Moreover, your donation will provide us with sufficient number of drums so that half of the students in my 3rd-5th classes will be able to share a drum. The drumming fosters teamwork and creativity. It also enhances concentration and motor skills. It involves both mind and body, mental and physical. Lastly, these tubano drums will provide exposure and connect the children to a rich cultural and historical heritage. Please consider helping our students to play World Drumming Music and make diverse music. If we are able to get the drums soon, we will perform the new drums with holiday songs at our winter program and throughout the rest of the year. We can't wait to beat on our new drums. Thanks for your help.
