The class enjoys using technology and is motivated to seek out information and complete projects that involve online components. I have a number of students who are English Language Learners as well as over a dozen students with special needs, for these students technology is often an access point into our curriculum. For students who have difficulty with grade level text, technology allows us to find alternatives in the form of online books that are read aloud or at a students independent reading level. Additionally, the are a multitude of visual resources that help my students access and understand the material we are studying. Our math and science programs include online resources that provide both enrichment and intervention, however our access to technology is limited. Our school is a Title I public school with over 1,000 students many of whom come from low income families. Currently there is one computer cart shared by the eight classrooms on our floor. We currently have only 2 laptops for students to share in our classroom. We are looking to have enough computers in our room for students to use daily in small group enrichment and/or intervention activities. The addition of 4 Chromebooks would help us achieve this, and give us easy access to technology students can use for research and group projects. Some of the students in my class were considered non-readers up until the end of the previous school year, one of the many tools that helped these students is i-ready, a differentiated and engaging online curriculum. This is only one example of many online resources that can help motivate and move our students forward. Please help us make it possible for our students to make the most of what technology and the world wide web have to offer.
