No classroom is complete without the love, care, and personal touches of its teacher. There are bulletin boards, posters, and miscellaneous decorations; tiny pieces in our classroom that add up to show our students who we are and the kind of people we believe they can be.
Students are the drivers of our lessons. We plan and implement with them in mind, working to incorporate technology and their interests into every lesson. Engaging my students in the lesson by providing personal white boards is crucial as I do not have an interactive to which I can call them up. White boards allow students to work individually, and in groups, with ease of erasing, trying new ideas, and creatively showing off their work. With Plicker Cards, interactive technology continues from whole group instruction, to small group meetings, and right into assessments. I will be able to bring students into their own trivia game, where they can play in a low-risk, independent environment. Engagement, technology, and empowerment ultimately, all stem from the choices we allow our students to make: in the way the solve a problem, the strategies they use to show their work, and also in picking the best seat in the classroom for their learning. Bringing these colorful stools into my classroom will allow students to have a special place to sit when persevering through a tough equation or working collaboratively with their peers.
Providing students with these materials will give them the tools to inspire, empower, and achieve in their daily life.
