Funded Oct 21, 2021Words can't express how grateful my 24 fifth graders and I are for your generous donation of atlases to our classroom. We have used the new atlases almost on a daily basis since receiving them, and by having access to these high quality resources, my students have been able to improve their map and social studies literacy skills. In previous years, my students had to use mix matched atlases that were published in the 1980s to study the geography of various places around the world. With these atlases, students are able to learn from current maps of the regions we study. We are enjoying learning about our ever changing world and studying different components of geography in depth with these updated atlases!
In addition to the atlases, the diverse read aloud books have opened up the world to my students. Reading is a way to travel around the world and learn about different customs and cultures, and we have done just that with these new picture books. We've traveled to Syria, China, Vietnam, Mexico, Iraq, India and many other countries just by diving into these new books. Incredibly rich discussions centered around empathy, inclusion, and celebrating unique perspectives and experiences of people around the world, have been had in our classroom after these read alouds.
Not only is my current class enjoying the books and atlases, but these resources will be shared with future classes for many years to come. Thank you so much for supporting my classroom and amazing, inquisitive, hardworking students! We are so incredibly appreciative of your generosity.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Raney
