As a team of teachers we are already planning ahead for how we can help our students grow and explore in the 2019-2020 school year. We want to become their own advocates in a world where you have to ask for what you need and want. Using our project based learning objectives (based around PBLworks.org), we will be creating our own ideas for grants. Using our chromebooks and google classroom, we we hope to have students research their own ideas for their “grants” for clubs, field trips, school needs, etc. Their grant will include a budget, grant proposal, grant publicity examples, and a video for a panel of teachers to present their grants. In this way, we create accountability for the students as well as forcing them to use their creative juices so they have unique and inspiring ideas. We are committed to following through with these proposals by having them also fill out the necessary permits and applications online. Our team's goal is to scaffold learning opportunities on a cross-curricular basis so that all students can contribute to the project. Additionally, we will be addressing Next Generation Science standards and Common Core ELA and Literacy standards. Both of these areas are assessed in our state's PSSA. We believe this type of real-world learning will promote rigor and elevate student engagement.
