Independent reading plays such an important role in learning the reading process. With that, it plays an important role in fostering a love of learning that students need to be successful beyond school. These books will reach students in multiple classrooms and multiple grade levels from K-2. The texts will help develop and enrich the skills and strategies to become independent readers. This collection of fiction and informational books meets the independent reading levels of my students and also will ignite their individual interests. With this new variety of books, my students will be able to read independently at their own level celebrating their new successes. Independent reading time is something that my students really enjoy because it allows them to autonomously apply all the fun and exciting strategies they have been learning in guided reading and whole group lessons. These books will help provide the acceleration in student achievement needed to close the proficiency gap in impoverished populations. Excitement will increase as the student choose their own books thus positively affecting student success with reading. In addition, advancement in reading occurs by reading more, therefore, these leveled books will be a valuable tool in improving the love of reading in ALL of my students.
