Breaking Chains and Meeting Goals

Funded Dec 9, 2018

I cannot thank you enough for the dedication and care you have for many students and their education. As you may know, education is very low funded in general, especially in the state of Oklahoma, but my school in particular is a very low budget school. Although we just had a big grant for each "core" class to have a Chromebook cart, my class was not one to receive one. I teach AVID (Achievement Via Individual Determination), this is a college preparatory class which teaches skills and knowledge to make it to college and make it through college once you get there. In this class, we need computers very often for college research, scholarship applications, and ACT/SAT practice. With my class not having Chromebooks for each student, it is very hard to get this work done. The 7 Chromebooks that were purchase by your donations for my classroom helped impact the lives of 3 seniors, who are able to check their Chromebook out for the year and take home and the other 4 Chromebooks stay in the classroom to help out my Junior AVID class. Seniors and juniors needed these computers more than anything as they are preparing to further their education. With these Chromebooks, my students have created resumes, applied to colleges, apply for 2 scholarship applications a month, filled out their FAFSA's, gone through the NCAA clearing house, completed a service learning project, and so much more.

None of my students have computers at home. Before receiving these Chromebooks, my students had to use their phones to do research or to type a paper. They lacked basic computer skills such as Word, PowerPoint, typing, etc.. With these computers, they are beginning to gain these basic skills to help them in college and in the work place. I just cannot thank you enough for believing in my students and caring enough to donate your hard earned money to better their lives. It's people like you that still give these students hope. You are changing lives and we all appreciate your efforts more than you know.”

With gratitude,

Ms. Gamble
