Benjamin Greene once said that "The biggest atrocity of all is to indoctrinate our children into a system that does not value their creative expression, nor encourage their unique abilities." Although our school is located in a low socioeconomic community, I, and my fellow teachers work hard to make sure that students have everything they will need to learn. I strive to plan lessons that will support student creativity; while giving them variations of the lessons so that all student levels are met. I often place them in pairs or teams so that they can share ideas and strategies during project learning activities or creative assignments. I cherish their diversity and therefore, plan lessons that support diversity in our classroom. In doing so, students learn how to work together to complete tasks and develop the skills they will need if they are to achieve success in the real world. That is why I am asking for flexible seating. Students will be able to move their seats to work on various projects around the classroom, or outside. This is especially helpful to my special needs and English Language Learners.
