  • Shhh-Whisperphone in the Classroom

    Funded Mar 1, 2019

I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you for your heartfelt donations towards "Sh Whisper phones in The Classroom"

It was quite encouraging to see how excited my students were when received and opened the box of sh whisperphones. The children were eager to use this new educational resource. Your heartfelt contributions was rather instrumental to providing such an educational device and new learning experience in my classroom. The Whisper phones are giving my students an opportunity to practice their literacy skills. Most importantly, the use of this device is engaging learners by helping them improve the way they use language to express themselves with confidence.

I am really excited about engaging students who are reading at various reading levels with enriching activities using Whisper phones. Students are already improving their language and reading skills and by extension, their speech and hearing.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Thompson

  • The Making of a Reading Superstar

    Funded Dec 20, 2018

I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you for your donations towards "The Making of a Reading Superstar". You have done something remarkable that inspired my students that will leave an indelible mark on their lives.

As soon as the games arrived, my students started using them. You could see the excitement and happiness on their faces. These reading games provide my students with multi-sensory activities they needed to engage them to enhance their reading skills. As the students played these games, I realized that they were not only enhancing their reading skills but they were also learning the importance of sharing, cooperating and being good team players. When they completed or won a game ( Word Bingo or the Roll and Write game ) they felt extremely proud and confident. These games have given my students the confidence they need to build their reading skills to be super readers .This was evident in their post test in the areas of spelling, vocabulary, letters and words recognition.

I have also been able to share with other students. These games will not only serve my current students but other students for years to come You are touching lives of more students than previously anticipated

    Once again, thank you.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Thompson

I have used a variety of educational games as instructional tools in my reading class. I believe game is important as a powerful learning and instructional tool because it helps my young readers to build their early reading skills. Many of my students enjoy playing games because they learn through playing and at the same time they are actively engaged and having fun. By playing games, students will learn the letters of the alphabet, new words, and decode a sentence. These materials will help as enrichment activities to build students' skills in phonological awareness, word recognition, alphabet recognition, rhyming, and phonetic skills. Reading games help students with their early reading skills and provide additional practices to improve and build letter recognition and sound association. Reading games, such as CVC Words, Rhyming Bingo and 'Sight-Word Seashell Game’ will be used to play word recognition games. While sound association games like "Fishing for Sounds" and "Go Fishing for Words" will be used to teach student the sound of each letter. "Go Fishing for Words" will also be used to help my young readers to practice word recognition and spelling to build their vocabulary and their reading comprehension skills. With these skills, they will develop into avid readers. Reading games will give my students a multisensory approach to reading. In that, it will help them to incorporate all their senses. This will make my students more engaged in their learning. When my students become fluent readers, it will open the world to them.
