Our fifth grade loves doing STEM projects and working together. The desks in my classroom are from many different sets and do not match. Most of the desktops do not line up and are not level, which causes difficulties during some of our experiments. I want to get rid of the desks and replace them with tables. These adjustable tables will provide level surfaces for the students to do STEM experiments and projects. They are also lightweight making it easy for the students to reconfigure them into small groups or separate them for partner work. When we need more floor space in the room, the tables can be folded and stored on the edge of the classroom, giving us space for movement in the room. In addition, the adjustable heights provide flexibility for students who like to stand while working and also for students who like sit on stools or wobble chairs Sitting in a hard chair without fidgeting is not easy for 5th grade students. The wobble cushions and bouncy bands will help students who need to wiggle or move focus more on their work when we are doing seat work. The wobble cushions can also be used when students are sitting on the rug or floor working. Giving students choices in seating, whether it is through table height or wobble cushions, meets individual needs and encourages a feeling of community. It lets the students feel that they have a choice and that their different learning needs are important.
