  • Creating a Welcoming 5th Grade Classroom

    Funded Oct 14, 2021

Thank you all so much for your generous donations. Seeing how these materials have transformed our classrooms has been amazing. Varied lighting and flexible seating has not only provided students with a warmer environment, but has also provided differentiation in what learning looks like. Oftentimes, students use our floor cushions to sit at a lowered table, rather than their desks. Especially during reading time, when the different lighting is used, students are more engaged in their learning as the environment feels calm, warm, and welcoming. Thank you for all of the kindness and support.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Beris

  • Differentiate Learning with Classroom Computers!

    Funded Dec 17, 2019

Thank you so much for your generous donations. In just a few months, these computers have made such an impact in our classroom. This technology has provided our class with a further access to learning with specific websites and tools.

When we first shared with the class that we'd be getting computers, the students started cheering out of excitement. Once they began using the computers to read books at their level on RAZ-Kids, play math games and use various math websites like Khan Academy for further learning, and use what they learn in technology with coding in the classroom, they were thrilled.

Websites such as RAZ-Kids and Khan Academy help to provide individualized support and help to deepen learning for students at their own independent levels. Students in our class love having interactive books, books that can be read as an audiobook where they can follow along, and have comprehension questions attached. Specifically students speak English as a second language, there are books in other languages that students can use, while also using English books at their independent level. These computers have also helped students level books in our library and research books that they are interested in ordering for our classroom library.

These computers have made such an impact to our classroom so far, and I can't wait to see all of the amazing things they continue to do for our students. Thank you so much again for all of your help!!!”

    With gratitude,

Additionally, there are a few students who struggle in writing when it comes to planning and organizing their ideas. However, when provided a computer, they were able to write their ideas on the page and complete their essay draft.

These computers have made such an impact to our classroom so far, and I can't wait to see all of the amazing things they continue to do for our students. Thank you so much again for all of your help!!!”

Classroom technology, such as Google Chromebooks, for our class of 22 students in third and fourth grade would be an amazing tool for our education. As we are a class of third and fourth graders, there is a wide range of learners with individual academic and developmental goals. It is important that students can access education at their own levels. In order to support differentiation within the classroom and ensure that all students have access to an education that supports each individual student, classroom technology would be extremely beneficial. With classroom technology, I can provide students reading, writing, and math practice at their own levels using programs such as RazKids, NewsELA, and Khan Academy, while also educating students on internet safety, introducing research skills in social studies, and more. In our classroom, we work hard to be innovative, open and accepting of others, learn from one another, and help support each others’ growth in school. Having classroom technology would be an incredible tool to support these aspects of our classroom and help our 3rd and 4th graders grow.
