Room 4 at our school is having a great year. We are crushing our writing lessons, adding and subtracting like superstars, and becoming better readers everyday. Despite our limited resources we make learning fun and accessible to everyone in our classroom community and, in my totally unbiased opinion, We are killing it! Bringing technology into our classroom will give my young readers the tools they need to take their learning to the next step. Tablets will give students the opportunity to access reading on their level during our Daily 5 time, supporting my struggling readers to catch up with their peers and allowing my advanced readers to continue to grow. The Daily 5 model gives students time to practice reading independently, reading to someone else, time for word work, time for writing, and time to listen to reading. Daily 5 research has shown that, "Listen to Reading provides fluency models that are valuable to all ages, but especially to students who are inexperienced readers, those whose listening comprehension exceeds their reading level, and those learning English." Right now we are doing the best that we can, but bringing this technology into our class will give us the edge that we need to push ourselves to the next level! The holiday season is all about giving back, and I can think of 26 little humans who would love to take their learning to the next level, we just need a little help. Please consider contributing to room 4 this holiday.
