In a newly established elementary school in North Carolina, we take pride in the incorporation of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) based projects, project-based learning, purposeful instruction, and classrooms that encourage creativity and innovation. With the use of Lego's, magnetic tiles, play-doh, building blocks, and brain flakes, my students will be afforded with the unique opportunity to create individual and assigned projects that have real-world application and require holistic approaches that induce innovation and desired creative thought. For example, my students can use lego's to construct a house, bridge, tower, or even an animal home. Fun and engaging tasks lead to mastery of knowledge and skills that lead to purposeful learning.
