  • Statistics for Researchers

    Funded Nov 8, 2024

Thank you so much for your generous support in providing batteries for gel electrophoresis and books about statistics for my research class. The batteries allow my students to conduct hands-on experiments with precision, bringing their learning to life. The statistics books are an invaluable resource, helping them analyze data and build a solid foundation in research methodologies. Many of my students struggle to identify which statistics to use and how to use them. I'm hoping a larger classroom library will help them make these decisions.

Your contributions make a real difference in their ability to explore and engage with science and research. We deeply appreciate your support.”

  • Journaling Through Research!

    Funded Aug 29, 2024

Thank you so much for your generous support in providing access to research journals for my students. These resources are a wonderful addition to our academic research class, giving my students the opportunity to explore a variety of topics and develop their skills.

Your contributions make a meaningful difference, helping them grow as learners and thinkers. I truly appreciate your investment in their education and your belief in the importance of their academic journey. These journals will be a valuable reflection tool as they complete their research this year.”

  • Snacks for Tutoring

    Funded Dec 31, 2023

Thank you so much for your generosity. I have a regular stream of students who are in my room before school and during lunch for tutoring. Being able to offer snacks means that they are able to stay focused on school. They also have a positive association with tutoring and find my room to be a safe space for them to come if they need help or a quiet place to work.

I wouldn't be able to provide a space like this if it wasn't for your generous donations. Since teenagers are always hungry, my students are very appreciative!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Levites

  • Memory and Learning Labs

    Funded Nov 27, 2023

Thank you so much for your generous donation. We were able to use these materials in class today and students observed their brains adapting to the task using the prism goggles. They had a lot of fun doing this activity and also learned a lot!

I am looking forward to referring back to this lab as an anchoring activity for the concept of brain plasticity. My students appreciate hands on opportunities and labs that show what is happening in the nervous system can be difficult to do. These activities help students make meaning of the content they are learning.”

    Ms. Levites

  • Starting Off With Supplies

    Funded Sep 19, 2023

Thank you so much for your generous donation towards classroom supplies and snacks. This year I seem to have students in my room every morning and during lunch. Students are eager to put in extra work and ask lots of questions. After a few tough pandemic years, we feel back to "normal".

My students appreciate the snacks and supplies to meet their needs. I let students know they are welcome to supplies when they need them, especially personal hygine products. I offer students snacks if they are there for tutoring, especially during their lunch period. I also have them on hand to discreetly give a student if they express that they need something to get them through the rest of the day.”

  • Basics to Start Next Year

    Funded Jun 26, 2023

Thank you for your generous donation. My students benefited from new supplies to start the year, including Kleenex, batteries, pencils and dry erase markers. I appreciate the additional science texts for my classroom library, as we will sometimes read excerpts that relate to specific units.

My students have just finished their first real lab of the year, and used the syringes to conduct a photosynthesis experiment. You can see it set up in the photos included. My AP Research students all received a journal, to help them keep track of key brainstorming and reflections as they embark on their year long research journey.”

  • Tracking Nervous System Signals in Muscles

    Funded Jan 16, 2023

Thank you so much for your generous donations for muscle spiker boxes. My students have really enjoyed learning about muscles, and using these boxes to examine their own electrical activity in their muscles. They are using them for an initial investigation to learn how to use the equipment, and we are using light and heavy weights.

Next week, we will design our own lab to test the activity in the jaw muscles based on the hardness of foods. Students will use a variety of foods like, popcorn, marshmallows, gumdrops, sweet tarts, and more, to design and investigate this lab. This will allow them to work on the scientific practice of designing and conducting investigations, while also learning more about how muscles work.

Your generosity is why my classroom is able to engage in new and innovative labs like this one. My students and I appreciate it!”

  • Providing Period Supplies for Girls at School

    Funded Oct 26, 2022

Thank you so much for funding this project, and funding it so quickly! As a 7th grade team we met with a group of students who expressed concerns about having to walk from the 3rd floor to our counseling suite on the 1st floor, or their lockers, if they needed menstrual pads.

We wanted to work with them, and appreciated their advocacy, so we put this project together. We have received materials and already assembled bins for each classroom. Students now have access in all the spaces they are in throughout the day.

Thank you so much for your generosity!”

    With gratitude,

I teach at a high poverty school on the south side of Chicago. My school is 7-12th grade, I teach Environmental Science to gifted 7th graders and AP Environmental Science to 11th and 12th graders. It is so rewarding to watch as kids make connections between what we study in class and their own lives and neighborhoods. We study and discuss the detrimental impacts we are seeing in neighborhoods, and why environmental science is so crucial to their lives as citizens of the city of Chicago! Oftentimes I need lab materials and advanced technology in order to allow them to interact with the material we're learning about. I spend a lot of time on hands on and inquiry driven lab activities, supported by a lot of student driven data analysis and discussion.
