Funded Sep 8, 2018First, I would like to give you a big THANK YOU for your donation! Second, I would like to apologize for the delay in getting you this letter. In the past couple of months, my kindergarteners have been able to use technology in the classroom through the use of Amazon Fire Tablets you generously donated. They are using school-wide applications like Lexia to get a jumpstart in literacy, reading, and writing. As well as, STMath to get more practice and hone in on skills taught in the Eureka math curriculum, with a focus on fluency and application problems. Moreover, my students have begun and, in some cases, mastered how-to conceptualize numeracy and connect counting to cardinality. Everyday they learn something new and I alongside them.
My Bearcats, as my co-teacher and I call them, love their new tablets. They have a new appreciation for these two programs because they now get more tablet time. Before we used to borrow tablets from our friends next door. Now, they each get their own tablet during our math and small group literacy stations. Also, they have learned to share with one another and for that we are so grateful. We may not have enough tablets for all 20 of our students but we have enough for small groups to rotate during stations. "Enough" is a concept my students have learned in our math block, as well as, through their use of mathematical application on their tablets.
My kindergarten class is fully enjoying their tablet time in the classroom, especially, on days we cannot go out for recess and we stay inside for indoor recess due to the cold winter in the northeast region. They are other applications they like to explore like Discovery, Starfall, and others through the use of Clever and their easy-peasy Clever Badges for logging in.
AGAIN, THANK YOU!! We appreciate you and your donation and hope you like our classroom photos and thank you cards. Happy 2019!!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Escobar
