  • Flexible Seating: Options Besides a Desk

    Funded Sep 21, 2023

It is amazing how allowing students to choose how they learn can make a difference. Giving them that sense of pride by just choosing where they sit can and did make a difference. Attitudes change, behaviors decreased, and learning grows tremendously when they are giving that option of how and where they want to sit.

Working with special needs students, it is important that they learn that they can make choices that benefit them. They learn that they may learn better in a different atmosphere than the typical chair and desk that they are so readily offered.

We want to thank you so much for your generosity as we begin the 2024 school year using all the products that were donated. Often time special needs students get looked over and it is important that we do not allow that to happen.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Akins

  • Show Your Pride In What You Do

    Funded Aug 1, 2022

WOW is the first word, after completing the project, I heard. From the kids to the teachers in the school, they are amazed by what this small project brought to the hallway. Displaying their work with pride and significance made the children smile knowing that as a teacher we respect their work and that pride goes a long way. Each week, we will be displaying one or two art projects in the frames. They will correlate with what we are learning. When the smiles come across the students' faces when their art is chosen to be "framed" makes me know that this project was a success. We wanted to say thanks for supporting our little kiddos and their work. Showing pride in what our kids accomplish daily can mean a whole lot in many little ways. Thanks again!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Akins

Introducing new activities, teaching routines, and developing a sense of self-worth are ways that technology can be useful for special education. Every individual in my classroom learns at different rates, and using technology would be helpful in introducing new things to them. Even as a reward for great accomplishments, these tablets would be very beneficial. Many schools are adopting tablets as an educational tool because of the benefits they provide for children with learning difficulties. A tablet supports communication which reduces the frustration and then allows students to be happy in their environment and learn and participate. Tablets and technology give confidence. They are creative tools unrivaled by traditional classroom infrastructure, and they engage those students who are hard to reach and motivate.
