  • Say It - Don't Spray It!

    Funded Oct 8, 2021

We are back in our buildings socially distanced with masks, disinfecting sprays and wipes. We're teaching with masks, talking through masks; learning how to adapt to the "new normal".

The "Say it; Don't Spray it" project has provided for our scholars opportunities to safely de-mask and interact with each other. This project allows members of the Interventionist team to speak to and hear from our scholars without the barrier of the masks.

With our desk shields, our English Learner teacher can deliver a lesson on the pronunciation of content vocabulary uninhibited-the scholars can HEAR the teacher say the words; the teacher can HEAR the scholars say the words. Both can watch to see how the mouth must position to form the words.

During our Reading block, we can check for engagement as we are discussing passages and questions because our faces can safely be uncovered.

When one groups leaves, we are able to sanitize and disinfect our shields and desk tops before our next group of scholars enter.

Thanks for helping us to bridge our former practices with our pandemic norms.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Erby

  • Interacting with Science and Social Studies notebooks

    Funded Feb 18, 2020

Thank you so very much for providing my Terrific 3rd Grade Scientists and Historians the tools needed to create interactive Science and Social Studies notebooks! Unfortunately, when our boxes began to arrive, we were unknowingly preparing for unprecedented circumstances in our lifetimes. As my scholars prepared for District exams, Spring Break was just around the corner for us all. While on Spring Break, our governor ordered our buildings to close to protect us from the spread of COVID-19. Our supplies are securely in my classroom anxiously awaiting the return of the scholars. When we return to our building, I am EXCITED because, for the first time, my scholars will BEGIN fully prepared to receive and utilize the supplies generously donated by you! Though unclear as to which direction this pandemic will drive our schools, I am prayerful that we shall meet again face-to-face in our classroom.

Stay SAFE, SANITIZED, and keep POSITIVE thoughts!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Erby

All of my terrific third graders are EXCITED to learn about Science and Social Studies especially when we add EXTRA to our notes-pictures, maps, colors...lots and lots of colors! Interactive notebooks provide my young learners with a gradual transition from learning new concepts through coloring to adding color to newly learned concepts. My scholars have limited exposure to scientific and historical concepts. Therefore, it presents challenges for my scholars to demonstrate an understanding of nonfictional texts on state assessments. With interactive notebooks, my scholars will maximize new Science and Social Studies concepts in fun, informative, creative ways. My scholars are more engaged and the knowledge gained is greater, and this project will add more opportunities for them to create interactive notebook pages.
