In this project, I am asking for outdoor sports equipment such as multipurpose game nets, balls for various sports, racquets, and jump ropes. These materials will allow the middle school students to have updated equipment and larger variety of activities during their Physically Active Student Time (PAST). At OLA, middle school students get 30 minutes of time outside to move, socialize, and rejuvenate before heading back to class after lunch each day. Play plays an essential role in physical, social, academic and emotional development in young children. We offer PAST to students because of its many benefits. Some of these include: helping students with impulse control, increasing the chances of students making healthy food choices, and helping to increase the amount of daily exercise students receive. Giving students a chance to have recess each day, outside of their regular PE class, also increases the likelihood of positive social behaviors because it encourages them to interact with their peers in a positive manner, to meet new people, and exposes them to a greater variety of social situations. We are proud to be able to offer this opportunity to our middle school students, but we need your help to make it the best experience it can be!
