Has your child ever come home and said, “Today was the Best Day Ever!"? They wanted to tell you about everything they did in Science that day and couldn’t wait to get back to school so they could see what would happen the next day. I want my students to react like this when they leave my classroom. I recently received a grant that allowed me to go to the Steve Spangler - Science in the Rockies conference in Denver, Colorado. I would like to share what I learned with my students and fellow teachers through purchasing some of Steve Spangler’s awesome materials. Kids get interested in learning through experiencing engaging and fun activities and experiments. I will use these materials in science class within my science units and also incorporate them into my math and reading curriculum. I would use the First Days of School science kit to get students super excited about what they will be learning during the school year. If they get excited about Science, then you can also get them excited about other subjects. The Cloud in a Bottle kit will be a great resource to allow students to see how clouds form. I teach a unit on weather, climate, and landforms and the geyser tubes and water gel will help in teaching about pressure and how volcanoes and geysers work, and about how polymers can help during times of drought. I would use the test tubes, racks and water gel within my Life Science unit to plant seeds. Students would be able to see the growing seed and get to experiment with water conservation through using the polymer gel in their planting. I am excited to get to teach with these resources and to hear my students say, "Today was the Best Day Ever!"
