My students come from high poverty homes to a school that is grossly underfunded and undersupplied. Many students show up with nothing but a pencil and the hope they can sift through used notebooks and Lost and Found bins to supply their needs. The binders, notebooks, paper, and other basic items will not only be a blessing for both the students and their families but will help them focus on their learning instead wondering where they will write their assignments or organize their homework into. Additionally, The Scholastic Scope magazines will be a great resource to supply my students with engaging, up to date material for extended learning and real-world application. The nonfiction stories of people overcoming adversity and standing up for what is right will help mold them into responsible citizens with an awareness of the world around them and a passion for achievement despite their difficult backgrounds.
