These magazines will continue to enhance the print-rich classroom that I strive to create. The magazines will expose my students to different topics that they are interested in. These magazines have been chosen with my students in mind as I have watched them grow over the months and seen their interests, in different topics, develop and grow. These magazines will increase their independent reading and help with their comprehension as they complete each of the mini-lessons that are included in these magazines to help them understand what they have read and perhaps open up their interest and curiosity to wanting to read more about a certain topic(s). Scholastic News contains currents events to build language arts skills and content-area knowledge. Made just for students in grades 5. Scholastic News features high-interest informational texts, standards-based lesson plans, and online features like videos, games, Text-to-Speech, multiple reading levels, and more. With a personal copy for each student, magazines fit perfectly into all classroom rotations—whole-class, small-group, and independent reading. You can even send magazines home to increase family engagement.
