  • Government & Civics Graphic Novels for High School

    Funded Jan 22, 2025

Thank you so much. I’m always surprised by the kindness of others. Thank you for caring about my students education as much as I do. These books will help engage all readers in American history and government, which is what we need right now - citizens. I’m so excited about the books!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Eyler

  • Basics & More!

    Funded Dec 3, 2024

I can't wait to use these supplies! I shared with my students that our project got funded and we are all very excited. These supplies will allow me to add more creativity in the classroom as well as provide for basic needs. I'm always surprised by the generosity of strangers. Thank you so much!”

  • Chess Sets For Chess Club

    Funded Jun 4, 2023

This has been, by far, my favorite Donors Choose project - it has brought me and my students much joy and entertainment. Most importantly, your donation and gift brought my students CONFIDENCE and PRIDE. Since receiving the chess boards, there almost hasn't been a day that at least two of my students play chess over lunch or after school. It makes me smile when one student teaches another student how to play and they feel proud of themselves. My female students in particular have really taken a shine to the game.

    Thank you again, truly.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Eyler

  • Back to Basics!

    Funded Jun 8, 2023

I'm always amazed by the generosity and kindness of complete strangers. My students deserve the absolute best and to give them the best we needed to start with some basic supplies! Without you my students wouldn't have had the supplies that they should have to not just start school, but will last until the end of the year. Every year is stressful not knowing if I will have the supplies we need for a good, successful school year - but this year I did! Thank you again and please continue to support students!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Eyler

  • World War II Research Books and Basic Supplies

    Funded Nov 15, 2023

I teach both WW1 and WWII every year, but due to your incredibly generous donation, this year was absolutely amazing. My students researched their topic for two weeks using the materials you donated. They then wrote a extensive essay and not only gave a presentation to the class on their topic, but were teacher for the day. My students thoroughly enjoyed interacting with 'real' books and somehow having research materials they could touch and feel made them even more proud of their work. I will be using these materials for years to come - thank you.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Eyler

  • Graphic Novel Version Of All Quiet On The Western Front

    Funded Oct 11, 2023

Thank you so much for your generous gift to my students. I have taught the novel All Quiet On The Western Front 5 years in a row, but this was the first year that my students understood the history of WW1, fully comprehended the content and plot line and most importantly, my students were able to relate themes in the novel to their own lives. With out the visuals supporting the text and engaging my students, I do not know if they would have enjoyed the novel as much as they did. My students and I were amazed that we received such a generous gift.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Eyler

We work and learn together at an Elementary/Middle School in Baltimore City. Our school is a Title 1 school, and the great majority of our teachers are rated ‘highly effective’. Even so, we are facing paralyzing budgetary concerns despite impressive PARCC scores, a limited suspension rate, and a partnership with the University of Maryland for clinical support. Put short, we lack the basic (and necessary) means to succeed and learn in the classroom; for example, as of today we are out of paper. While I’ve had generous help from family and friends to get me started, I’ll need continued support to get us through the remainder of the year with any hope of a reasonably successful outcome. Most of the items needed are basic teaching materials, such as composition books (each student needs one per quarter), pencils, hole-punch, a stapler, paper (copy paper and loose leaf) and markers. Building academic vocabulary is extraordinarily important, having a three-ring binder for students to use and create their own Vocabulary Journal would be a gift. Additionally, the three-ring binders can be re-used next year. I included basic projector/computer accessories, a sound bar and an HDMI cable. Many students are visual learners and having a clear audio system with so many students is essential. However, there are a few most expensive items that would seem unequivocally important: for example, a replacement bulb to for our classroom's digital projector. At present, the projector is our only point of access to the wider world beyond the immediate streets around us. As trivial as this may sound, awareness of the world and its opportunities helps to stimulate a sense of possibility, which in turn drives academic striving. Any support is appreciated.
