  • Since Time Immemorial

    Funded Dec 17, 2023

Thank you so very much for your gracious donations. Since Time Immemorial, Land Acknowledgement and the Natives in our area have been ignored far too long.

My district is one of the first to work with our local nations to tell their truth and to acknowledge the land we stand on as first being inhabited by them.

The resources you helped provide have been a source of pride for my Native American students as well as deepened all of our understanding of concepts like: Native tribes' cultural traditions and way of life (how it differs from the white man's and why it was so hard to integrate the two), the role salmon played in their lives and in their history, and the impact adapting to the white man's world has had on them now and in the past. It has brought us closer together as people in our county and closer as a community of students in the classroom.

Thank you for providing the materials I needed to help my students learn about the richness of the cultures that were here Since Time Immemorial as well as those that exist today.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Schroeder

  • Rather Be Reading

    Funded Nov 30, 2022

Thank you so much for the generous donation of books for our classroom. The students are currently running their own study groups with the books and enjoying the interaction a group book study brings. Since there are a variety of genre, some of which are humor, the kids are cracking up as they read together and are thoroughly engaged in the story. They hate stopping and can't wait for reading group again. It has opened up a lot of the more passive participants. They can't help but laugh and add on to the group conversation.

The donation has brought kids together, encouraged laughter, motivated kids to check out more of the series on their own, and raised the bar on kids on the edge of their seats waiting to see what happens in the next chapter.

The books have hooked many readers and brought many readers together who thought they had nothing in common.”

  • Escaping the Pandemic

    Funded May 22, 2022

The books you funded have impacted our classroom in so many ways. There is something about receiving a package in the mail and unboxing it with others - sharing in the exciting of what is inside. It was so humbling to see the looks on the kids' faces as each new book was revealed. The gasps and oohs and ahhhs and the "I want to read that ones!" I love children's literature! I have to try very hard not to peek in the box before they do. I hide the temptation in the closet and don't dare cut the packaging tape. Receiving a gift, from someone that loves books and children, made it even more exciting! The numerous titles you provided to them made for a class of happy campers.

My students are battling the non-rigorous days of distance learning, adjusting socially to a school setting and learning gratification from something other than video games and electronics. These much loved books you purchased and the wide variety of genre make this battle a lot easier. Many of my kids are already over 100 minutes in of reading this year...many pick up a book when they get home versus playing hours of Minecraft. VICTORY!”

  • Building Social and Emotional Skills Even From Afar!

    Funded Oct 22, 2020

I apologize for the delay in thanking you for these wonderful and glorious books. COVID has been a tough one on our future generations most especially those in elementary school. It has been emotionally and physically hard on so many, but the joy in books has not changed. Thank you so much for providing my students with an opportunity to have books that are not always found in the general classroom.

We have focused a great deal on empathy, kindness, and social-emotional skills. In a time such as these, my students crave things of the heart. Your generous donation has provided a sounding board(s) on which my students can discuss, share and ponder the impact of our actions and words on others.

These books have been invaluable and our classroom is shining bright with collaboration, kindness and encouragement for one another. Much thanks, always!”

  • Book Clubs! Exciting, in Depth, and Meaningful Conversations About Books!

    Funded Mar 2, 2020

My students were beyond excited for these books. They waited every day for a box to arrive. We did receive one box before the pandemic and it included the Pax books. The group that got to utilize them were so thrilled. In fact, I had other students go to the library and get Pax because they couldn't wait for their turn.

Unfortunately, COVID hit and things were turned upside down. I had an incredible struggle getting the books delivered from Amazon. By the time they came, the kids were out of school. I would have dropped the books off at each kiddo's house, but book club was too hard to do for many during the summer.

Reading for my students is essential. We do a lot of instruction in reading, but we also like to spread out with comfy items and delve into our books. Silent reading looks very much like it does in the photos. The kids love it. They also loved book club, but I was not able to get pictures of that occurring! They were extremely excited for the books and book club so we are very grateful!

Thanks so much for donating to this great group of kids. I know there memories of reading will carry on with them for many years.”

  • For the Love of Reading

    Funded Oct 25, 2018

Thank you so much for your generous contribution to our classroom. The kids are loving the books.

It is so cool to see them reading and being carried away in a book. They can't wait until someone returns a book to the shelf.

Your donation has made reading exciting, anticipating and rewarding. Many kiddos have found a series they love. Thank you so much for giving my students something to look forward to. They are amazing and I am so proud of how they have grown in their love of reading!!!”

Most of my 3rd graders come from low income families and many are academically behind. We are in a portable so space is limited with 28 kids. I am returning to teaching after 15 years and really want my students to come to a place that is engaging, inviting, invigorating and motivating. I know I can build this intrinsically - and that these items are just material things - but I do believe they add benefit to the classroom. I have to admit, our classroom is on the bare side! I would love for my students to have access to more books (lots of books) and places to go to read and work that are unique, fun and inviting (big pillows, bean bags, big lovies). I want more for them than I can provide! We will continue to work hard on being kind, encouraging one another, and being self motivated and responsible learners yet I am still hoping that these kids get a few surprises delivered to them soon. They deserve it :)
