Pawn Takes Book
Funded Jul 14, 2020Thank you so much for providing these amazing books for my students. They are beautiful, top quality texts that will help these students become involved in the pleasures of reading. By providing contemporary, fast-paced and interesting texts your donations are helping otherwise potentially hesitant or resistant readers become immersed in the world of literature. By having new books students are given a sense of value and appreciation that they might otherwise lack always having few reading options limited to tattered old paperbacks handed down from generations past. When students have clean, new, fresh classroom materials (such as this library) it makes them feel special and as though they are part of a learning environment that cherishes them.”

Mr. Wright

Funded Jan 1, 2020Thank you for sending so much assistance to my classroom project. This project ensured that all of my students have as many books to choose from as they can possibly ever need. I have students in my classroom who are reading whole novels for the first time in their lives. And these students are not just reading one or two books, they are reading three, four, five books a month thanks to your generosity. For many of these students these supplies mean they are getting to reread old favorites, getting to explore genres and series they were already interested in. But more vitally, students are now getting to read books that for the first reflect their own lives and experiences.”

Diverse, Engaging Reads
Funded Sep 3, 2019These books will help my classroom have a diverse array of topics and authors to choose from when they take part in their daily silent reading. My students will have the ability to always pick among a wide array of topic and find something that interests them to help them continually grow and prosper and develop as readers. More vitally, many of these books have helped my students find group books to participate in as part of a literary circle book club assignment. Furthermore, many of my students can now freely participate in the Battle of the Books team to compete with other schools in the district as excellent readers.”

Mr. Wright
Supply Lines
Funded Sep 2, 2019This year, my students will never have to ask for a pencil. They will always be prepared to glue, cut and staple when we do a creative project. My students, many of whom are very needy and do not have the means to provide their own classroom materials, will be able to engage in the most compelling, engaging kinds of lessons this year due to the generosity and gifts you have helped provide. My students have staplers, printers, pencil caps. This will help keep my classroom tidy and organized to further facilitate my classroom management and help all students achieve their utmost.”

A Body Must Have Air. A Class Must Have Books.
Funded Sep 4, 2018When I started this school year I had a tiny library of discarded books, many of which were well below the lexile level of my students. With the help of your donations I was able to buy a massive library of books for the students to use in their free time. The books I selected cover a broad range of interests from classics to popular teen novels to help engage student readers.
Now, when students are given assigned reading in my class, they race through their assignments so that they can spend more of their silent reading time reading the books of their own choice from the shelf. I gave each student a laminated bookmark with their name to leave in their chosen book and every day students ask for recommendations concerning new books. I've made a game of this, either recommending books I know students will enjoy or asking students to help me undertake a task and read a book for me, a book I haven't read yet and report back to me about whether or not they'd like to have it taught in class and why. Students seem to love feeling as though they have a job.
None of this would be possible without your help. I think anything we can do to help students gain entry into the world of literacy is a vital step in helping our children grow.”
