Looking at my students’ needs this year I see some areas where I am lacking in resources to support and reinforce their learning. First, I have a number of students with goals on math reasoning. The books focusing on math problem strategies would supplement my instruction. Calculators can also help with accommodating for their math computation weakness as they can focus on understanding and planning their approach to word problems. Secondly, I asked for picture books that would be great springboard for discussion of prosocial behaviors. My students with autism will benefit from this explicit teaching as they respond well to social stories. I also have a 2nd grader who is still learning the names and sounds of letters. The Alphabet packets from Lakeshore will help me differentiate my instruction for her. Another area of need for a lot of my students is bolstering their focus during crucial instruction time. Fidgets, kinetic sand and play-doh with the molds are tools that can help kinesthetic learners. They also help regulate emotions/alertness. Additionally, I asked for school supplies that can help deliver instruction or help my classroom be more organized: whiteboards and book bins for my leveled books(that are still in boxes). Finally, for my struggling writers, the Writing Process folders and Revising chart from Lakeshore will help them with understanding the writing process and organizing their written work. My students have diverse needs and these materials will help them achieve their academic goals and for a number of them also help with learning social skills, emotional regulation so they can be flexible learners.
