  • Empowering Students: Therapeutic Interventions for School Success

    Funded Aug 3, 2023

Thank you for your generous donations on the classroom incentives, and therapeutic activities for my students that have challenges with social emotional and behavioral issues.

I've used the therapeutic books received with some students that were ready to work on their issues in therapy. "The Beyond Coping Skills" The Ultimate Teens' Working: Integrating CBT and DBT for Lasting Emotional Regulation and Personal Growth" has held two of my students reach their social emotional/ individual therapy goal. The book provided concrete and easy to understand lessons and activities for these students to learn and practice. These two students are on their way to successfully transitioning out of the Therapeutic Intervention for School Success (TISS) Program.

Incentives have been a vital role in the motivation and encouragement of the remaining students in the TISS Program. Many of our students are from lower socio-economic households, and the gift cards to Fandango, Doordash, Dominos, and Amazon, etc., have played a huge roll in motivating our students. The portable chargers were also a favorite or demands of the students as some are unhoused and they use the chargers to share with family members. One student shared that they come to school because of the incentives that were offered to students for this school year. Other items such as: notebooks, markers, pens, and conversational cards have been as effective to students as they learn to express their thoughts, feelings, gratitude, and hope using these items that are provided to them.

Again, thank you so much for funding my classroom. Because of your generosity and consideration, you have helped motivate my students to want to do better in school academically and socially. The tools that you have provided this classroom with will continue to serve more students in the future.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Monica

  • Empowering Students: Therapeutic Interventions for School Success

    Funded Feb 8, 2023

Thank you for choosing to fund my project. The students have been motivated to earn the most points possible in class by following class rules, using appropriate coping skills and social skills, and trying to complete classwork and participate in class in attempts to earn the reinforcements such as the gift cards to Amazon, Starbucks, and Fandango that you have provided.

The class has been more engaged in my group counseling sessions, especially when we do the "Slang Cards," another item that you have provided us with. These cards encourage the students learn to engage socially appropriately with their peers and adults as well as lift their self esteem. The students are the expert on today's slang words, and we have used these cards for them to educate the staff on how they communicate with each other.

My personal favorite and item that I am most grateful for are the journals. I am teaching and training my students during weekly group sessions on how to journal and practice gratitude. Even when student they don't have a personal response to the question of each journal lesson, they are starting to think about a positive thing or moment they have or want to experience.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Monica
