  • First Grade Classroom Library

    Funded Jun 8, 2020

Thank you so much for your generous donations to my class. Although most of my students are currently engaged in distance learning each day, many have enjoyed reading these books from home through our book checkout program. The read aloud's I have done with my class twice a week using books funded through this project are a huge hit, and students are begging for more. I see a love of reading and a passion for learning growing each day as my students explore, learn and develop curiosity about the world around them through reading. We love using these books in our classroom and we can't thank you enough.”

  • STEM in Sixth

    Funded Nov 7, 2019

My students love learning with the STEM materials purchased through this project. The straw building set has been a wonderful hands on learning experience for them. Working collaboratively students have built some massive structures while learning about architecture and design.

The ozobot robot has been an engaging and exciting piece of technology for my students to explore coding with. Many students who were initially hesitant to engage in coding have taken a quick liking to it thanks to Ozobot. 'Building' tracks, programing, and creating unique designs has been an exciting adventure for us all.

Although all of the supplies purchased through this project have been loved by students, the Makey Makey might be the most popular. Students can't get enough time with the Makey Makey and are regularly coming up with creative ideas and uses for it. I love to hear their out of the box brainstorms for using this devise and seeing them put their ideas into action. I am amazed their creativity and seeing them so excited about learning gives me such pride as a teacher. Thank you again for your generous donation.”

  • STEM in Sixth

    Funded Sep 25, 2019

My students love using the STEM supplies purchased through this donors choose project. STEM has truly come alive in my classroom with students engaged in collaborative and creative projects that require critical thinking and problem solving. The simple machines and bridges construction kits have lead to hours of architectural exploration and research. These kits have helped my students learn more about the engineering and design processes that are required to build a stable structure.

The Play22 building blocks have enabled students to design and create to some amazing projects. This STEM supply really has endless possibilities and students have engineers some amazing prototypes from these building pieces; including a modified hang glider for someone who is unable to use their legs and a hand peddled bike design.

The circuit maze, marble run, and roller coaster challenge kits have been great for students to work on in teams of 4 or 5. They love tackling the different challenges provided by these kits and are having discussions about gravity, motion, aerodynamics, patterns, and chain reactions. Thank you so much for providing my the tools for my students to engage in these amazing learning opportunities. I look forward to using these with my students for years to come and can only imagine what else they will innovate and create.”

  • Flexible Seating in Sixth Grade

    Funded Oct 17, 2018

We use our flexible seating every day in sixth grade. The chairs funded by your donation allow students the ability to work comfortably and collaboratively around the classroom. Working around the room has become even more popular since the addition of our ball chairs, which students have declared the most comfortable chairs they have ever sat in. They also love to lightly bounce in the bunjo chairs as they read independently. The bean bag is another huge hit, and provides a nice calm down space for my students when they need a break. Thank you so much for your donation to our sixth grade classroom!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Sha

My students love to 'work around the room'. One of their favorite chairs is our Bunjo chair, but our bean bag and camp style folding chairs are also very popular. When I asked them why they preferred to work around the room instead of at their desks, they told me they felt more productive, relaxed yet focused, and better able to collaborate and problem solve. Students enjoy the freedom of working around the room during flexible seating time but I also notice the effect it has on their thinking. They tend to be more open and less constricted in the way they approach to learning. They take ownership of the environment they are working in, and soon they take ownership of their learning. I have noticed students problem solve and in fact think more flexibly when they have access to flexible seating. Bunjo chairs benefit all students, but especially those with anxiety. Beanbag type pillows and seats allow students to fidget a bit without losing focus on their work, and stools allow students to work at our counters together instead of at their individual desks. Maybe what my students are most excited about is the Balance Ball chairs. We have a few of these chairs in our resource room and school calm down space; students love them. These options are the flexible seating options that were at the top of my sixth graders wishlist. Students will use our flexible seating options during literacy and math partner and small group work, as well as during writing workshop and independent reading.
