Because of the limited number of computers, it is difficult for all students to have access to them. To illustrate, I have 24 students in one class and three center rotations which means having eight students per group. One of the centers is technology-based where I can only put three students at a time which leave five students off the computers during that rotation. At times, this can be a little difficult in terms of meeting school/district requirements.
By doing this, scholars will have access to different resources/programs that will help them reach their potential and close educational gaps. I'm asking for a total of 4 laptops which would give our scholars access to a total of eight student computers. In addition to that, some of my scholars do not have access to technology at home. I would give these students the option to check out these laptops and bring them home to work on either homework, projects, or for extra practice.
Our district uses a program known as i-ready and students are required to use this program for 45 minutes per week. This goal can be challenging to meet with a limited number of computers. In addition to i-Ready, I would also have scholars use a program such as Khan Academy, Xtra math and other educational websites. Sometimes students don't always benefit from 100% of direct instruction. They need access to manipulatives, and the ability to explore. We live in a day and age where technology is at the forefront. Everyone is on their phones, tablets, and other devices. When technology is implemented correctly in the classroom, I truly believe that students will truly soar to higher heights.
