The items that I chose are geared towards using play as a tool in learning. In Kindergarten, we learn letter names and sounds and then put them together to make words. I teach the American Sign Language sign for each letter. We learn numbers and basic addition and subtraction within 10. We can utilize the sand table and water beads in small groups, developing cooperation skills while actively learning. My goal is to provide a developmentally appropriate classroom where students can learn basic skills using multi-sensory materials. I believe that a students’ attitude towards education is one of the greatest indicators of their success. Students will be engaged while painting and stamping their sight words. The drying rack will provide us a space to place each masterpiece. The organizers will utilize our space and time in having a variety of materials. I love books that teach concepts of tolerance and respect. The books that I chose teach social skills and address issues such as bullying and facing fears. I also chose reproducible books that can be sent home with students. They will get to learn to make the book their own by coloring it and reading it with their friends and reading buddies. They will be able to build their own home library that they can read independently, gaining confidence in their reading abilities.
