Help Student Voices Be Heard
Funded Feb 28, 2024Thanks to your generosity the students of HPHS can now be heard!
When I started teaching at this school, there was no band program and no musical instruments for students to learn to play an instrument or continue with their music education. Another thing that was lacking was a proper P.A. system for singers to be heard over a band. We raised funds to buy instruments and found a P.A. system but discovered that the mics we had were very old and weren't taken care of. They were regularly shorting out. When I tried to repair them, I found that the metal was rusted and thus the mics were beyond repair.
Donors Choose offered the chance to raise the funds to replace our microphones with new quality ones that will be taken care of so they'll last for many years.
Thank you again for your help. The impact of your generosity will last for many years to come and enable students to express themselves in a healthy and constructive way.”

The Birth of a School Band
Funded Oct 22, 2021Thank you immensely for your generous donation to our school's Music program. Through your generosity we have been able to offer students access to instruments, equipment, and instruction that was not possible in the past. The school is now able to offer a beginning and intermediate band experience for students looking to learn an instrument or improve on one that they already play while also learning to collaborate with others toward a common goal.
The electric bass and guitars are used daily by students to play and practice. The drum kit has been very popular and has inspired other educators to volunteer their time to give students lessons.
In the past, students have expressed an interest in learning an instrument but didn't have access to instruments. Now, thanks to your help, we can offer students the opportunity to experience the rewards of playing an instrument and collaborating as a group. We are currently working towards a concert repertoire to be performed in an end-of-the-year concert.”

Help Students' Voices Be Heard
Funded Dec 4, 2019Through your generous support we have been able to greatly increase the quality of recordings and, by extension, have enhanced the engagement of students in music creation. Many students have used the booth to record vocals and instruments. Others use the booth as a place to rehearse and practice their singing as it is nearly soundproof and can provide a embarrassment-free space for students to gain confidence in vocalization and performance.
We look forward to expanding the use of the booth by hooking up a digital interface to an external computer so that students can learn to engineer and produce. While one student is playing and/or singing in the booth, others can be running the session from a desktop computer equipped with monitors, learning to record as well as mix and master.
Thank you again for helping these students to have an authentic composition and performance experience.”

Funded Jan 24, 2020Thank you for supporting my efforts to bring engaging music education to city students. Many of my students have never had any music program in their schools. By empowering students to engage with their own creative powers, endless possibilities are seeded.
My students and I are very grateful for your support.”

Funded Dec 3, 2018I would like to thank you again for your generous support of our music program at High School for Health Professions. Because of your donation, students were given an opportunity to work on the creation and production of music in a much more focused manner. Students have been writing songs, orchestrating classical music pieces, creating beats, recording their own voices, and sharing musical creations with one another. Before we were able to purchase the headphones, students were limited in the work they could do in class as it was too noisy with forty computers playing music. Now students can hone their creations with much better focus by isolating their music through the use of headphones.
Additionally, I have been able to implement multimedia classwork that includes videos and song samples. This wouldn't be possible without students having access to their own set of headphones.
Thank you again for helping make music education better.”

Funded Sep 25, 2018I want to thank you again for your generous support of New York City students and the Arts. As many schools are forced to cut the Arts for budgetary reasons, the community must step forward to protect Arts education. Your support has provided roughly four-hundred-fifty students with an opportunity to learn not only about how music works but how to make their own music. The software called "Soundtrap" is a web-based recording studio which allows for students to work on music wherever there is an Internet connection and to collaborate with other students across the globe. As the software continues to develop, it will offer greater enrichment of music appreciation and allow students a pathway to self-expression which is much needed.
Thank you again for making this possible.”
