  • Technology for the Common Core Classroom

    Funded Oct 15, 2013

Thank you for the generous gift to my school of the new iPad. I know my students will greatly enjoy being able to work with the fun and educational applications that are available through Apple. The new ways they can engage with the math thought this portable technology will help to bring more interest for my diverse group of students.

I look forward to working with my colleagues in bringing this technology to more of our students. Two of my colleagues are currently working with their students on iPads and I look forward to joining them! They have found great success with them.

Thanks again for the donation and for showing how you care about education.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Jorgensen

  • Math for All: Creating Equity For All Students

    Funded Oct 24, 2012

Thank you for helping to create a more engaging environment for all of my students in my classroom. Your gift has helped my students learn the crucial algebra skills they need as they prepare for high school. The double-sided personal whiteboards have been crucial for the unit on linear graphing that we just finished. My students really enjoy being able to have their own whiteboards to show their work. I really appreciate the cloth erasers as well. They are so much nicer than my old towels I was using before. Also, the pens and markers have been helpful for our work on combining like terms. Students are able to underline like terms with separate colors to help them to understand what can and can not be combined.

With the materials to be able to provide different learning experiences for my students, my lessons are more dynamic and interesting for my students. Thank you for helping to make learning fun for my students!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Jorgensen

  • Creating a Welcoming Environment

    Funded Oct 6, 2011

Thank you for your gift of a digital camera to my classroom. I see a new appreciation in my students when they see themselves working hard or having fun in the pictures.

We are able to use the camera on field trips, in the classroom, and extracurricular activities to document the learning and fun times we are having this year. My students enjoy being able to use the camera to take pictures of each other. I see an increase of pride just by seeing their pictures posted in the school hallway. It also helps to improve pride in their work when it is documented and creates a positive environment. This has been the most important change I have hoped to create with the documenting of their lives this year. Our school is working to create a more positive environment and this is one aspect that is helping to do that.

Thanks again for your generosity and concern for our future leaders.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Jorgensen

My students are from all different backgrounds and experiences. My lower performing students have a great desire to achieve and do better, but often don't have the resources and support necessary to do so. I have taught many of these students and have seen changes when students are recognized and develop pride in their work. They attend a school with one of the highest achievement gaps in the state. However we are in the 7th year of improved state testing scores, and we are focused on closing the achievement gap. With the giving, student-first staff we are confident that we can achieve this goal.
