As we all know, there is a lot of research that states that our children benefit from consistently reading, it is important to expose our youth to various texts as much as possible. No matter the subject area being taught, students should be reading to learn and expand their vocabulary. Learning another language in and of itself is rigorous but in order to maintain what you've learned and at the same time grow, it is important to be exposed to the language as much as possible. It is important that my students are using their time wisely and using every minute of instructional time to learn and grow. This is why I believe that a library with relevant, short and long, easy and difficult reading be available to my students. The exposure of reading materials, such as, short stories or novelettes or short books like Selena and Evita, help students continue with the language, build on vocabulary and tell them about the Hispanic culture. Reading is in fact fundamental, even in Spanish class!
