Group projects and individual assignments will require students to utilize a variety of modalities. Through reading a diverse array of classic and contemporary literature as well as challenging informational texts in a range of subjects, students are expected to build knowledge, gain insights, explore possibilities, and broaden their perspective. I want my students to enjoy reading and gain academic confidence. Cutting edge contemporary literature can entice students into reading more. This will likely build knowledge, gain insights, explore possibilities, and broaden their perspective. A greater chance of success can be expected if students are more engaged. Bar Code Tattoo explores the ideas of Individuality vs. conformity, freedom vs. control and identity vs, access in a futuristic dystopian society. This gripping novel follows a diverse group of teenagers through some of life’s challenges and difficult questions. Social and cultural poignant issues make this book is timely and content is highly relevant to our student population. This impairs their comprehension and limits their ability to develop effective reading strategies or to learn from what they read, thus limiting their exposure to important content area information, world knowledge, and vocabulary.
