My students will have the opportunity to see some of the concepts we cover in physical science for themselves! Students will learn about sound frequency and pitch, and relate that to real world instruments. They will get to see Newton's 3rd law of motion in action with the Newtons's cradle, and test friction on varied surfaces for themselves with the friction board. Students will see how ants work together as a colony which is applicable to people, when we want to get things done. I imagine that this will be a meditative and focusing tool for students as they enter the classroom or are on their way out, and may be of special interest to students who have suffered trauma or have special needs.
I believe this will be helpful for all my students to have hands-on learning opportunities that they can relate to the world around them, making science learning relevant to them!
I found an ant farm at a sale, but it needs a colony and a new supply of sand to become complete. This colony will live in the classroom and engage, intrigue, and inspire us on a daily basis.
