OSMO-Zing Things Are Happening at the Creek!
Funded Jun 26, 2019Thank you so much for funding my OSMOs!! I am so excited to share these with my students during our makerspace in the media center. They are loving learning how to code. It is so important to incorporate technology into activities that our students do because it is the world that they live in. The OSMOs allow us to use technology in a very kid-friendly way. They can explore many different areas like coding, word work, and math games while learning new concepts that they will be able to apply in many areas of their lives.
THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH!!!”

Funded Mar 1, 2019I am so grateful for all of your help getting the books I wanted for my students at my school. So many of them read on such a low level, and needed more books that are on their level. They love the Biscuit books because he is a sweet character, and the books are fun and engaging. I have not been able to keep these books on the shelves since they arrived! My students are checking them out as soon as they get returned!
You have done such an amazing thing for these students! I will forever be grateful for your contribution to this school, to these students, and to me.”

Funded Feb 28, 2019I cannot thank you enough for the generosity you showed by donating the large amount of books to our school. Your donation allowed us to add over a $1000 in books specifically related to Black History as well as books on a lower reading level. We have been able to share these books with so many students, and we are seeing such an impact in the way our students think and talk about their history. We are also seeing more and more students able to check out books on their reading level. It has been an amazing thing to witness.
I am a brand new media specialist, and the school I came to struggles. We have the lowest reading scores in the entire county, and our students just didn't love reading. We also had students asking specifically for books related to their heritage. While we had a few, we didn't have enough especially considering that over 80% of our population is African American or 2 or more races. I was able to create a display that students flocked to. It was wonderful that I was able to get these books during Women's History Month, specifically, because there were so many books about strong African American women. I still (2 months later) cannot keep these books on the shelves! These kids are excited! They come in with their friends saying, "Oh, I just read that one, you need to read it!", and I LOVE it! It makes my heart so happy.
Not only are the kids excited about reading the new books, and sharing them with each other, they also love to share the stories. I love hearing about the stories they have learned. Many students did not know who Sojourner Truth was, and now those same students can tell me all about her. They also spent time during our Science Technology Engineering and Math time to construct hidden rooms from the underground railroad out of paper and tape! They used several of the books YOU provided as a guide for what they may have looked like.
You have given these kids an incredible gift: it's not just an appreciation for their heritage, but you gave them a love of reading that will last them their entire lifetime! How cool is that??! I mean, I knew they would be excited about the books, but I never dreamed it would inspire so many of these students to seek out more books and information. It's incredible! YOU are amazing. I wish I could give you a big giant hug. :-) Thank you for all you have done for these students, this school, and for me. You are a true blessing to us all.”
