  • Making Remote Learning Hands-on for Students with Special Needs

    Funded May 13, 2020

Thank you so very much for your generosity in donating to this project! Between quarantine and the timeline, I was unable to send these materials out in the Spring. I had to make the executive decision to wait until the Fall.

I began school in the Fall as an in-person/remote teacher and was quickly told that I was to go remote. So many of my students had chosen to go remote that they changed me to a fully remote teacher.

Since I began the year in school, I was able to create packets with the materials you so generously supplied for us. I made them available for my families, and was able to add laminated resources to the packets. So much was unsure and I am grateful that they had resources they would need for Remote learning. Thank you again for your kindness.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Mary Fox

  • Making the Best of the Time at Home

    Funded May 19, 2020

Thank you very much for taking the time and effort to donate to this project. My students this year really loved to have fun. We worked hard, but, every once in a while got to play hard as well.

I sent out the Spot It and Uno games expressing our hopes that the students and their families would use them to have some fun during the Quarantine. I received so much positive feedback. My students and families loved the games, but they loved that we thought of them and wished them fun even more.

Every one of my students situation was different during the Quarantine. They were scared and anxious about people getting sick, parents losing jobs, etc. Many of them did not leave their homes for months. Thank you for helping me bring laughter and positive energy to them! It really made a difference.”

  • Flexible Seating-More Engaged and Less Distracted

    Funded Jul 21, 2019

It has been a busy year so far! Thank you for your generosity in helping me purchase flexible seating for my classroom. I have a group of very busy 2nd and 3rd graders with emotional and learning needs this year. I am slowly but surely introducing the seating options to the students.

Right away we put the big bean bag in the break area for kids to be able to have supportive seating while they are returning to baseline. I have the elastic bands on the chairs for most of my students. We had several discussions about how to use them and how not to use them and they are giving the students a physical outlet.

Lastly, the stadium seats are in the reading area right now-allowing for supported seating during their independent reading times. All of the items that you helped me purchase are supporting my students physically, giving them choice, and an outlet for their energy. They loved that people-most people they don't know-cared enough to help purchase the items for the class. Thank you again for your generosity and care!”

  • iPads to Encourage Student Learning and Engagement

    Funded Aug 13, 2019

Thank you for your generosity in helping to purchase two Ipads and cases for our classroom! We use them daily during centers and small group work.

I have uploaded many apps that work on skills-adding, subtracting, letter tracing, sentence building, answering WH-questions-that my students still need to master. This year I have a very active group of 2nd and 3rd grade students. Their needs vary a great deal. The Ipads allow me to differentiate small groups and centers to meet the needs of my students while still teaching to the standards.

The Ipads are also being used for several of my students that have behavior plans. After getting their work done without problem behavior they are able to "play" and educational game on the Ipad during a short break as a reinforcer.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Mary Fox

  • Lights, Document Camera, and Action-Conversation and Feedback in Real Time

    Funded Jul 4, 2019

Thank you very much for supporting our classroom! The document camera that you helped us buy allows me to project work-mine or my students'-providing me a way to give feedback to the entire class and show exemplary student work.

The students were so excited to use the document camera. My students are all boys this year and many of them are impulsive and need a high degree of novelty and the document camera provides this. It allows me to enlarge work to grab their attention. Instead of conferencing with one or two students in regards to their work, I can provide feedback to the entire classroom. I can also show exemplary student work to the entire class, reinforcing good work and good choices. The camera allows us flexibility in real time when looking at work.

Using the camera, I can model processes and strategies that I am teaching. One simple way I am using the document camera is to project my sample morning journal entry on the board as a sample "product." I can then refer students to the journal entry, provide feedback, and show exemplary entries. Thank you for supporting our classroom!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Mary Fox

This year I am the special education teacher in a second grade Integrated Co-taught classroom. We will be departmentalizing, which means we will be switching classrooms and working with up to 60 students each day. A large part of what I will do is differentiate the general education curriculum for the students who are not understanding as well as supporting students with learning needs. Much of my work will be done working in small groups.
