Our students have traumatic backgrounds. Acting out is often their only form of expressing their feelings. I use blocks to support the concrete development of their social and emotional skills through by encouraging 21st Century, problem-solving, and Growth Mindset skills. Blocks entice our children to work together, to make friends, to use kind voices, to express patience and respect one another. I have noticed students learn to self soothe and communicate more positively when they have the option to choose a block center. Having more options with manipulatives that help the blocks come alive will continue to support their growth and development.
