  • Scratch Projects in Color

    Funded Sep 3, 2020

Thank you so much for considering my class when it came to your generous donation. Technology can be found in a multitude of ways in classrooms these days. Anything from laptops, Chromebooks, ipads, speakers, mice, projectors add to a student's experience every day. With the new addition of our color printer, the students now have another piece of technology to express themselves and show off their coding skills.

The students love being able to design and build their coding projects and can now print them in color to display within the classroom. They can also use their color displays as a visual aid in their classroom presentations.

Many of my students love learning how to send their designs to the printer and helping other students print their presentations as well. Thank you again for considering our class with your generous donation.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Kawaoka

  • Build Fluent Fact Masters From Afar!

    Funded Jul 25, 2020

I would like to take this time to express how grateful I am of your thoughtful donation. Maintaining the same level of effective teaching, while taking on the added challenge of distance learning, has been no easy task. However, with your thoughtful donation, I have the tools I need to keep my students challenged and working hard. With the use of my new multiplication program, I will be able to motivate my students to learn their facts, as well as hold them accountable for their work. The touchscreen chrome book will also allow me to share my screen and be able to type and annotate directly on the document.

Thank you again for supporting my students and myself as we strive towards our goals.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Kawaoka

Distance learning can present some extra challenges for the students and families that make up our student population. Many of our students are learning English as a second language, and some may have socioeconomic risk factors, as well as the lack of support at home. Learning multiplication facts is one of those skills that requires time and practice to master facts. Motivating students to practice their facts at home can be very challenging, especially if they do not have support at home. The goal tracking strategy that I would use in class motivates my students to learn. However, without being together, the students tend to lack the motivation to practice when they are on their own at home. Having a program that would help motivate them, show them their goal progression, and share progress with their teacher would be great. This program offers motivating games, flashcards, and activities that can be utilized during live zoom sessions, or at home for asynchronous learning. Most importantly, this website offers an assessment piece that allows me to have more accurate and timely data collection. The students will be able to take daily, timed, online tests, and I will be able to receive the data and provide the students with feedback. Being able to collect quick and accurate data will allow me to motivate my students to keep them engaged and ready to tackle their next goal. To make distant learning more efficient and productive, the use of a touch screen chrome book makes a big difference. With a touch screen, I will be able to annotate text, demonstrate math problems, edit their work, and much more. It brings the work we are doing to a much closer and manageable distance.
