Distance learning can present some extra challenges for the students and families that make up our student population. Many of our students are learning English as a second language, and some may have socioeconomic risk factors, as well as the lack of support at home.
Learning multiplication facts is one of those skills that requires time and practice to master facts. Motivating students to practice their facts at home can be very challenging, especially if they do not have support at home. The goal tracking strategy that I would use in class motivates my students to learn. However, without being together, the students tend to lack the motivation to practice when they are on their own at home. Having a program that would help motivate them, show them their goal progression, and share progress with their teacher would be great. This program offers motivating games, flashcards, and activities that can be utilized during live zoom sessions, or at home for asynchronous learning. Most importantly, this website offers an assessment piece that allows me to have more accurate and timely data collection. The students will be able to take daily, timed, online tests, and I will be able to receive the data and provide the students with feedback. Being able to collect quick and accurate data will allow me to motivate my students to keep them engaged and ready to tackle their next goal.
To make distant learning more efficient and productive, the use of a touch screen chrome book makes a big difference. With a touch screen, I will be able to annotate text, demonstrate math problems, edit their work, and much more. It brings the work we are doing to a much closer and manageable distance.
