My students are growing quickly and are in need of more space! We gather together every day for reading and writing workshop. Students constantly state "He is in my space" or "I can't fit in my square, it is not big enough!" The classroom rug we currently have, unfortunately, is becoming too small to fit 32 bodies. My students frequently express frustration that their personal space is being invaded or that they cannot comfortably fit in their space on the rug. A new, a bigger rug, will allow my students to have more space to work and learn on the rug. This will allow them to have the space to focus on their own work, while still being able to collaborate with their peers around them. A rug is still important in our classroom as a place to gather together as a community. We use this space to discuss ideas, learn new concepts, solve classroom problems, and collaborate on our work.
