Visualizing Body Systems
Funded Dec 4, 2023Thank you for your donation to my classroom. Wow! The body model is so cool! I had it out at the tutorial period when students were getting extra help in the school day. The kids loved separating the model pieces and seeing how everything worked together. It is hard to teach about the interconnectedness of body systems when I did not have a model. I got this tool after the main part of the body systems unit. When the kids at tutorial saw this I could see the lightbulb moment go off. I have more units coming up when I will integrate this model and share this with our health and PE classes.”

Lets Cell-e-brate How to Use the Microscope
Funded Nov 28, 2023Thank you for the update to my microscope teaching unit. I am not entirely sure about how old the microscope slides that I was using were. But what I do know is that after at least 15 years the slides were starting to tire out. The edges were breaking and the glue was coming off the cover slips and they were scratching. The new slides are clear and without scratches. I have enough materials for my students to work in groups of two and see the needed specimens. Before my students had to wait until other students were finished or we needed to create more. This is such a time saver. Not only did the new slides arrive but it came with updated labs. There were ideas for labs that I had never done before.
In the past, I have only used the slides for learning about cells. However, this year in addition to my microscope and cells unit, I am getting the slides back out for genetics. I think it is so cool when kids get excited about using materials that help them visualize the topics in a new way.”

Funded Nov 28, 2023Thank you for the generous donation to my classroom. Your donation allowed me to have students visualize microscope use in a completely different way. Students connected the Chromebooks to microscopes using the attachment. Instead of students using the eyepiece, this beautifully displayed the images on the screen. This made the experience so much easier. The students were wowed at the ability for them to see the images and share them with others instead of sharing one eyepiece back and forth. I could also see if the student's microscopes were focused and if the image shown on the screen was what was supposed to be seen.
When the order had come in, we had already finished our unit so it was a chance to get them out and see plant and animal cells.
I am currently developing a connection to my genetics unit using the microscopes so that the kids can continue to use them this year and for years to come.
thank you for helping instill curiosity and excitement into my classroom.”
