Standing Tall to Present
Funded May 7, 2024Thank you greatly for your contribution to my classroom. My students have enjoyed using the adjustable desk for their presentations. Most recently my National Honor Society Officers have utilized the desk the most. Every month our chapter meets and discusses events and news involving our organization. We also vote on items such as fundraisers and t-shirt designs as well.
NHS is a completely student-run organization and the officers create the agenda and the presentation to go with it. They also lead the meeting by explaining all that is going on for that upcoming month and answering any questions members may have. The officers were excited to use the new adjustable table when presenting, making them feel more comfortable addressing their peers. They look forward to the meetings every month.
My students are excited about their upcoming presentations and feel comfortable standing in front of the class.”

Funded Nov 21, 2020Thank you so much for your donations. My students, who do not normally read memoirs, really enjoyed Phil Knight's story. They are all familiar with the brand NIKE, but did not know how much work went into making it the company it is today. Before diving into the story, we all set goals and what needed to be done in order to accomplish them. Now that we have started the book, my students have adjusted their goals and understand that sometimes goals can take a different direction. What I most enjoy are the conversations that are happening. Students are discussing the path that Knight took and how Nike did not become what it is overnight. There is no better reward than seeing my students enjoy a book.”

Funded Nov 30, 2019One of the things that I enjoy best about teaching high school English is sharing my love for reading with my students. It is an amazing moment when my reluctant readers enjoy a good book. I was so excited to receive this book and share the story with my students. They have loved the characters and really enjoyed how much they relate to the main character Julia. Some of the activities we have done include a virtual trip to Chicago. (I teach in a border town in deep south Texas.) Venn diagrams comparing Julia and Olga, the parents in the book to their own parents, writing assignments about the struggles of typical high school students and the struggles of trying to conform to two different cultures. We are only half way through the book, but my students are coming to class excited to read and see how Julia's story pans out.”
