The first 20 to 30 minutes of school can be a very challenging time. Students are coming in and getting ready for the day at different times and it is hard to start instruction without a full class. In the past I have had a worksheet or coloring sheet available for students who are ready to get started. This seat work is not always very engaging or meaningful. I would like to have activities that engage my students and get them working on skills that they need right away! I would like to implement engaging activities that not only address academic skills but also target the lack of fine motor skills in our students today. I have recently purchased a bundle of activities from Differentiated Kindergarten designed to engage kindergarten students in activities that will strengthen their fine motor skills and work on academic skills that we will be mastering throughout the year. These activities will be in place of their morning 'seat work'. In order to implement these morning work stations I will need supplies to sustain the different stations throughout the year such as tongs, legos, hole punches, drawing tools, pop bead, and other hands-on manipulatives to strengthen those little hands and get them better prepared for writing!
