  • Campus Beautification

    Funded Jan 1, 2025

Thank you for donating a class set of trash pickers! My advisory students and I have been busy traveling to different locations on campus every week to beautify our school. We've picked up a ton of trash, mainly plastic, that were caught in bushes, shrubs, and grass areas. Students are becoming more aware of the impact of trash on the ground, especially when it's raining and the trash starts traveling into the drains. Overall, the students and I have simply been enjoying our advisory time hanging out and having a clean-up party.”

  • Hellooo, New (School) Year!

    Funded May 17, 2024

Thank you for donating to my project. It was great to have all the materials donated before the school year even began so that I was able to design and implement new labs for the incoming 8th graders. We used the bar magnets and iron shavings for our Magnetic Field Lab, where students were able to visualize both bar and round magnets attracting and repelling. My students were amazed to see that the iron shavings produced "cool" patterns!

For contact forces, we focused primarily on friction. Students took temperatures of different areas in the classroom and used erasers to rub those surfaces, creating friction. The forehead thermometers were incredibly handy because students observed that friction caused surfaces to be warmer! To teach how friction affected an object's motion, we were able to use the Rolling Friction Cars, measuring distances of 4 cars with different types of wheels. All these materials that were donated made such a big difference in the students' learning. Instead of hearing from me how magnets or friction worked, students were able to do hands-on lab that really helped them understand the phenomenons of friction and magnets!

Lastly, thanks to the donated certificates, I have been awarding Scientist of the Week to students who have been working hard, keeping a growth mindset, and showing improvements. Thank you again for helping me create lessons that are fun, engaging, and hands-on!”

  • The Art Pop-Up!

    Funded Sep 19, 2024

Thank you for giving me a chance to run this amazing club called "The Art Pop-Up"! Students have been attending regularly to the club - on a Friday after school, too! Kids are having a great time making buttons and doing some watercoloring. We've painted bookmarks and buttons to fundraise for the club during our recent school event. We've even made DIY stations where we fundraise money by selling button making kits! Overall, the students are simply enjoying their time with their friends doing some art on a Friday afternoon. After a long week, what's better than just being with good friends and hanging out?

We hope to diversify our crafts in the near future, doing friendship bracelets and Perler beads, felting and even crocheting! Again, I find it so relaxing to spend time with students and doing all these crafts with them. Thanks for giving me and the students a chance to have some fun and be creative!”

  • Pushy Cars

    Funded Jan 23, 2024

Thank you for donating to my project! The energy cars and the spring scales that were donated have been thoroughly enjoyed by my students when we did our Mass vs. Acceleration Lab, as well as our Collision Cars Lab. These two labs give students a visual, tactile understanding of Newton's 2nd and 3rd law. Students used the 5-Newton push spring scales to measure collisions between two cars, studying how one car exerts force on another, while the other car returns the same amount of force on the previous car. Students used 10-N push spring scales to launch the energy cars, launching them at 5N, 7N, and 10N. The kids particularly enjoyed using the 10-N spring scales as launchers and seeing the cars roll quickly and smoothly along our yardstick tracks.

I have been planning these two labs for months now and I will design more labs next year using these materials (labs on potential and kinetic energy). These labs would not have been possible without your generous donation. Thus, from the bottom of my heart, thank you!”

  • Sending Some Love

    Funded Mar 12, 2024

Thank you for bringing this project to reality. Thanks to your donation, I am able to give students a snack prize of their choosing whenever they win game challenges in class.

For example, in preparation for the state science test, the class did various game reviews for each of the unit we've covered. For forces and motion, we played a review board game and the winners in each group were able to pick a snack of their choice. For reviewing fossils, we paired up into Connect-4-style review questions. And for Energy, we played a Blooket review game. The students were excited to be able to win prizes for their hard work and many were happy to have a wide selection to pick!

Thanks to your donation, I will be able to continue rewarding students for their hard work! Thank you!”

  • Learning UnLOCKed!

    Funded May 3, 2022

Thank you again for funding my efforts to bring an ESCAPE game into the classroom. It was a day of crazy, stressful fun, and a myriad of locks and locked objects. The kids had a lot of fun with this new experience - even those who couldn't escape on time.

The story of the Escape the ISS went like this: The International Space Station is hacked by an unknown entity, locking all the doors, shutting off all the lights and jamming any communication. Students/astronauts/escapees in training were tasked with solving a series of puzzles to unlock "doors" and turn the electrical by completing a circuit. Each locked box had a piece of the circuit that students must unlock to complete.

The joy, laughter, and excitement as students unlocked each puzzle was palpable. It's a rare occurrence to see 8th graders squeal in excitement! Thank you, donors, for giving the students a day like no other, for giving them an experience like no other. Thank you for always supporting their education!”

  • To the Laboratory!

    Funded Aug 7, 2021

Thank you for your generous donation to this project. Distance learning in 2020-21 school year was a tough year and returning to school had its challenges. Regardless, I'm thankful to have students back in the classroom and engaged, and you helped make this possible!

Your donation of a standing desk helped me stay physically active during long hours of online learning, while it helped me continue to stay on my feet and circulate the classroom when we returned to school.

Since returning to in-person instruction, the students have been having a blast doing many hands-on labs that were not possible during distance learning. The 6th graders dissected flowers, chicken bone, and cow eyeball for their Structure and Function unit using out brand new dissection tools. The kids loved it and it breathed life and joy into science education.

The utilities cart and desk organizer have also been of great help this year. Because we are sharing our science lab among 4 science teachers, we were able to organize and conveniently transport lab equipment from and to our classroom. My students were able to easily perform labs in the classroom by simply getting their set of materials from the organized cart! Though the lab room is being shared among the different teachers, every student in all grades is able to participate in hands-on lab activities every day thanks to your charity!

I wanted to thank you again for your generous donation and your commitment to science education! Your donation brought a lot of joy and excitement into learning science!”

  • Talk About Efficiency!

    Funded Sep 25, 2019

Words cannot express my gratitude for your generous donation! Your gift of a fast and efficient laptop made this very difficult and confusing school year possible. This school year was hectic, to say the least. With the outbreak of COVID-19, schools in my district and county suddenly went into distance learning and shortly after, teachers were expected to deliver lessons online. Thanks to your help, I was able to continue to connect with my students despite distance learning, as well as create lessons that continue to build on their science foundation. With the reliable laptop, I was able to record my science lessons that I would normally deliver in the classroom; I was able to convert those lessons into engaging Edpuzzle activities; and more importantly, I was able to continue to see and connect my students, who I missed very much.

Teaching online would not have been possible for me without your donation. Truly!

From the bottom of my heart, I thank you for your support in making this year possible!”

  • Jammin' with Doc Cam

    Funded May 10, 2018

Thank you so much for donating to my Jammin' with Doc Cam project! When I first received the document camera, some of the students were curious as to what it is, since the document cameras they've seen in the past were bulky and the quality not as clear. They were so surprise to see the burst of color and crispness of the camera in this doc cam! The quality of this document camera is phenomenal and its small size allows it to be discrete without taking up too much space on my desk. I have used this document camera with my students every day since I gotten it funded. I have been able to draw together with my art class, demonstrate art techniques, and display student examples. For science, I show exemplary work and go over homework answers. The document camera also allows me to highlight extraordinary work done by my amazing students. Sometimes I display their work for the class to see, or they themselves display it for the class. I love this document camera because it allows me to celebrate the hard work of students and the efforts they put into their education. Thank you, donors!”

  • Wear it Proudly!

    Funded May 21, 2017

Thank you for your generous donation! Words cannot express the level of impact you have had on my school year, as well as my students. In the few months of school alone, I have made a class set of T-shirt for the yearbook students, gave out Scientist of the Week T-shirt to the students who earned this recognition, and received 120 orders of band T-shirt from the band students. With your donations into the screen printing supplies, I was able to make a large amount of T-shirts in a short amount of time!

The yearbook students were incredibly excited to have their yearbook shirts, and they carry it around in their backpacks at all times. In events and days when they need to enter a class to photograph, they are able to wear the T-shirt as a badge of honor! Similarly, I had designed and screen-printed T-shirts for the science students when they earn the prestigious Scientist of the Week award--a recognition of their hard work and dedication. Kids were excited to see the words "Ben Franklin Scientist of the Week" written in the font of the Periodic Table of Elements--a unit we have been studying for months now. Before the school year ends, I plan to finish making and distributing our Falcon Music T-shirts, and another class-set for our leadership/student government class.

Your donation has made it possible for this exciting project, and I hope to continue build a sense of community in my school.”

Most of my students are from low income and high poverty areas. Some of them have speech difficulties and learning disabilities, while a few cannot speak English at all. Yet despite these challenges, many of my students are motivated and eager to learn. They come to school everyday on time. Some of my students want to be doctors and vets, while others want to be lawyers and teachers. Most of them want to be all these great things because they want to help people. My students have these goals in life, and they've even dedicated their goals to their mom, dad, siblings, and to themselves. However, because they belong to low income communities, most of them have not been exposed to a lot of opportunities outside of their neighborhood. Some of them lacked the basic knowledge of spelling and measuring taught in elementary school, and most of them are unsure of the importance of science.
