  • Classroom Tablets: Let's Connect With the World!

    Funded Nov 29, 2022

Thank you so much for helping bring in new technology into my classroom. Many students are used to having tablets at home, but now they have learned how to use them as a learning tool. My students love having new tablets to use doing their choice time, as a reward, or if they complete their work early.

Some of the ways the tablets have been utilized within the classroom are through the daily math program, reading/ELA games, math games, taking pictures of student's masterpieces, and a favorite, Google Earth. Students enjoying sharing with peers and adults on what they have learned, what they have created, and what motivates them. The tablets are a new opening to learning and exploring on their own. Adults are always there to guide, but it's the students that guide their learning. The new technology helps build that motivation to keep learning and being curious.

Thank you again donors for the exciting new way for students to be engaged in their learning through technology.”

  • Exploring Our Senses with a Sensory Table

    Funded Oct 13, 2021

Once again, thank you so very much for the donations to get a sensory table in my classroom. My students have a fun time with it. They get a time of the day where they get to "Learn through Play" to use the table. There is always a group of students that choose to play there.

The students get very excited when I put new items and toys into the table each month. So far, I have placed dried beans with cars and animal toys. Then I have placed rice with scoops and linking monkeys. I do plan to put dried macaroni noodles with new toys next. When I simply add scoops, trays, cups, and shovels into the table, the students imagine all kinds ideas and places. In the spring, I plan to ask the students what I should put into the table next. That will get them excited.

This sensory table is a wonderful addition to our learning environment. The students are creating friends, sharing ideas, and working together. It is amazing to watch the kids just have fun learning and playing with their hands. This table will be used for many years to come.”

    With gratitude,

  • Storage Shelves for Growing Minds

    Funded Dec 10, 2019

The Ikea storage shelves with bins are a wonderful organizational tool. Each storage shelf represented a subject during small group, intervention, individual work, and center times. Then the shelves had 9 storage bins it held, which held 9 different activities. One self held the math activities/materials and the other held reading/writing activities. The bins are very helpful for many reasons. The main reason is for easy access and clean up. Students were to grab the bin/activity the wanted to use. Once the student was done with the activity, they simply put the activity back into the bin and put it back on the shelf.

When my students saw the shelves for the first time, they were amazed. They loved how easy it was to choose an activity and greatly enjoy how easy it was to clean up their materials. The students even wanted to use the tops of the shelves to hold other class materials, such as crayons, dry erase markers, white boards, and more. I even noticed some children wanting to organize and reorganize the bins or help others clean up.

Students did not get to use the Ikea shelves with bins very long due to the COVID-19 closure. However, I will continue to use these shelves for many years for many different activities and lessons. Thank you again.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Stamper

  • Activities for Educational Play

    Funded Mar 15, 2019

Thank you so very much on donating to my project for my first graders. The students were and are still very excited to work and play with new items during choice time and when they have finished their work early. The items are still being grabbed fast.

The students are using these resources as learning tools through their play. For instance, when the students are playing with the Lego's or the puzzle, they are using critical thinking, engineering, and math skills while they build. They also are working on their social skills when playing with others.

The letter blocks are amazing! We use these during our intervention portion of the day. My students have been working hard building words and seeing the patterns with them. They have definitely helped with reading and writing.

Thank you again. The new materials are welcomed and appreciated into my classroom!”

  • Help Our Minds 'STEM' Into Engineers

    Funded Oct 19, 2018

Thank you again so very much for the donation to help my class get and learn with the STEM Bins. The bins are a fun activity they ask for just about on a daily basis.

When I had introduced the STEM Bins, the students roared with excitement. In class, we had talked about engineering and what engineers do. Once I handed the bins out, they were excited to be engineers. My students are not only learning about structure and science, but also learning teamwork, developing new friendships. and gaining new social emotional skills.

The next steps with the STEM Bins is to have a discussion about how they can make their structures taller, wider, and more stable. This will create new and developing vocabulary in the STEM "world". Thank you again from myself and all of my first grade students.”

    With gratitude,

The materials that I am requesting for my students will be geared toward scientific discovery learning. The materials will be divided up into learning bins, and the STEM bins will have materials that will inspire the students to construct something using task cards. STEM Bins are plastic, clear boxes filled with an engineering manipulative, such as Gears!, Magic Connectors, Star Puzzle Connecting Pieces, Unifix cubes, toothpicks and playdough, or popsicle sticks with velcro on the ends. The boxes also contain small sets of task cards on metal rings that picture a variety of basic engineering structures. These STEM Bins will then be placed on an easily accessible shelf in the classroom. When students’ regular classwork is complete, they can take one STEM Bin at a time and learn as an engineer. They will use the materials in the box to construct as many different structures on the cards as they can. Students will be engaged in creative, complex tasks and are encouraged to think like inventors. Kinesthetic learners, spatial learners, and logical learners will love exploring the different possibilities for the building materials as they try to construct more challenging structures.
