Funded Apr 2, 2019First, thanks again for your contributions to my project! The addition of chrome books cut down my paper usage immensely.
One difference between schools now compared to 5 years ago is that most curriculum is shared through apps such as Google Classroom, Microsoft Classroom, or Schoology rather than drudging through textbooks every day. Generally speaking, teacher's have moved away from textbooks in favor of pulling from dozens of sources and sharing the content digitally. This gives us the flexibility to be more dynamic with content selection allowing for more engaging lessons.
Chicago Public Schools purchases Google Classroom so I have made it the forum through which students and parents can access class materials. Whether we are analyzing a text, a political cartoon, or watching an informative video, Google Classroom allows me to share content without having to print out hundreds of worksheets. This has made the chrome books invaluable to what I do every single day. My classroom is currently divided into 7 groups and I have 8 chrome books; each group gets one computer and they work together to complete whatever the task for the day is. Although I still do have to print out some content to ensure that everyone can interact with the materials, having chrome books has reduced the amount of paper I use by roughly 30 sheets per day.
In the coming years I hope to achieve a 1-1 student-computer ratio and your contribution set me on a path to achieve this goal within the next two years! Thanks again and please do not hesitate to reach out if you have more questions about the impact this technology has had on my classroom.”
With gratitude,
Mr. Johnson
