Many of my students come to school without a lot of literacy exposure from their home environment. They have a drive to learn, but do not always have the proper resources to read independently. Our school is a Title One school, so many students come from hard backgrounds and in many situations, single-parent homes. Many parents works one to two jobs, and are not very involved in their child's school experience. They mean well and want the best for their kids, but certain family circumstances prevent them from spending a lot of time at the school or reading with their children at home.
