  • STEAM Reading!

    Funded Feb 13, 2025

Thank you for taking the time to invest in the future. The best investment is our young students who will eventually become the citizens in the community.

At this time, students need to learn about the natural world they live in and how to take care of it. The readers you helped purchase will be key to their understanding.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Holguin-Brown

  • Coding With Legos!

    Funded Feb 8, 2024

I thank you so much for your generous donation! Technology is so important in the world today. Our youngest learners need an early start to learn and apply coding skills to begin their knowledge in coding.

Again, I thank you so much for investing in the future of my students and in the world of technology.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Holguin-Brown

  • We Are Diverse Learners!

    Funded Dec 22, 2022

I want to thank you on behalf of my students and myself for donating to our classroom. We appreciate the generosity that you have shown to such young students who are in the process of learning.

However, not only are they learning academics, they are also learning about themselves and those around them. They are beginning to understand themselves and how they fit into their society.

They were able to explore themselves and see how they differ from their peers. They were able to see that not all students or people are the same and that is wonderful. Again, thank you for making this project happen.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Holguin-Brown

  • Reading Leads to Language!

    Funded Jun 21, 2022

Thank you so much for contributing to our project to build language in our classroom. We have been working so hard to improve our social and academic language and increase vocabulary.

The magazines are really engaging for the students because the topics are of their interest, such as animals and holidays.

The engagement in books is leading to more discussion, better writing, and more interaction with each other.

Thank you again for helping build the future and the communication needed to interact as a global citizen.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Holguin-Brown

This classroom project was brought to life by Dollar General Literacy Foundation and 4 other donors.
  • All About Me!

    Funded Jan 9, 2022

Students are so excited to use the new markers to create stories about themselves and allow others to get to know them. We have a daily writing workshop and students are ready to write. We then share our stories with others in the class. Students become so happy when they relate to the author of a story because they have had a similar experience.

Students feel like real authors when they are able to fill blank books with stories about their family, friends, and what they experience. We thank you for your kindness and contribution towards our classroom. We will continue to tell our stories!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Holguin-Brown

  • LEGO Building and SEL!

    Funded Nov 10, 2021

So many students have been at home since Spring of 2020. They have been isolated in homes without the pleasure of building relationships with kids their own age. Community building is a big part of social-emotional learning. Therefore, it is now a necessity to give students the opportunity to engage in community building activities. I separated the blocks and put them in different areas of the room. The students needed to stay in table groups for safety protocol. Therefore, each table was a group and needed to work together to build and share their ideas. I did not hear any arguments or upset students. They were so involved and engaged in their building that they worked together beautifully. Thank you again for your generosity!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Holguin-Brown

  • Full STEAM Ahead With LEGO Bricks!

    Funded Oct 28, 2021

I can barely describe the look on my students' faces when they saw the big box of legos. They couldn't believe it was sent for us to use in the classroom. The blocks that were sent gave them a chance to work on their STEM skills. They put together blocks according to the cards, and were able to follow the directions. They also figured out how to make their own designs the more they worked at it.

My students are overjoyed by your generosity of giving. They worked with the blocks for a while and groaned when it was time to clean up! Thank you so much!”

    Mrs. Holguin-Brown

  • Hands on Math!

    Funded Sep 23, 2021

Using paper and pencil for our youngest students in first grade and kindergarten does not aide in improving math skills. These young students are more likely to learn about number sense by being active during math. Therefore, the tools that you have so generously donated to the class have been giving them the opportunity to learn math and be able to retain what they have learned.

As a class, we have been using the large, magnetic dominoes to play the game by matching the dots as in a real game. Each student receives a domino and plays it when it is their turn. Playing games is so much for them and they will remember the number and quantity from having such a great time in class.

    We thank you!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Holguin-Brown

  • Build Fine Motor Skills While We Play!

    Funded Sep 10, 2021

Thank you for generously giving to our classroom for this project. Many students were not in classrooms last year. Therefore, the youngest students are having difficulty with their motor skills. This difficulty impacts writing, cutting, and completing tasks using their hands and fingers. One great way to improve motor skills is to have students play with play dough. They can tear, roll, and squeeze play dough to strengthen the muscles in their hands. They are eager to play with the play dough so they are having fun while improving their motor skills.

Thank you for helping my class!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Holguin-Brown

This classroom project was brought to life by The Mo & Cher Willems Foundation and Disney and 4 other donors.
  • Independence in First Grade!

    Funded Sep 23, 2021

Having two different grades in the same classroom can be very tricky, especially when there are kindergarteners involved! I have a small group of first graders who need to learn how to work independently when the teacher is working with kindergarteners.

These journals, that include math and sight word activities, are going to give the first graders a chance to practice what they are learning while building independence.

They feel extra special because they have their own journal with their name on it that they can work with during independent work time.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Holguin-Brown

We have the greatest kids at our school! Their thirst for knowledge is incredible. However, being a school that is surrounded by an industrial center, these kids spend time inside the home. The majority of the students qualify for free lunches and English is their second language. More and more students are coming to school with no preschool experience. We get students from different areas of the Spanish speaking world, and it would be great to experience the world with a view from a tablet. Their world knowledge can expand daily!
